Les Arcs

Les Arces er en nydelig middelalderby, en av de best bevarte middelalderbyene i Var distriktet, sentralt plassert og med lite turister. Her er ro og fred, ypperlig som base til utflukter rundt om i Provence.

GAMLEBYEN

Byen er på en måte delt i to, den ”nye” på flaten nedenfor gamlebyen med butikker, kafeer og restauranter. Mangler kanskje litt av sjarmen som mange landsbyer har men den sjarmerende gamlebyen Le Parage som kan dateres tilbake til 1100 tallet, er nydelig og sjarmende. Landsbyen er bygd i en åsside, med bratte stier og trappetrinn og med hvelvede passasjer over de trange gatene. De gamle steinhusene ligger tett sammen, noen gallerier kan du finne, og et hotell på toppen med restaurant, ellers ingen butikker og kafeer. Men turen opp til toppen er en flott spasertur gjennom en godt bevart og skjønnsomt restaurert middelalderby.

FØDESTEDET TIL SAINTE ROSELINE
På toppen av middelalderbyen ligger fødestedet til Sainte Roseline, født i 1623, Château de Villeneuve, i dag er det et luksushotell og gourmet restaurant med navnet Le Logis du Guetter, herfra har du utsikt over den ”nye delen av Les Arces og vinmarkene som ligger rundt byen.

Rådhuset, Hotel de Ville, ligger foran den åpne plassen på Place de General de Gaulle, som også er byens markedsplass, og som ble pusset opp i 2001.

HISTORISKE BYGNINGER
Château de Villeneuve

Fra 1300 tallet, slottet ligger på toppen av middelalderbyen, og er i dag hotell og restaurant.
Det var fødestedet til Sainte Roseline, født i 1263 og datter av Arnaud de Villeneuve.

Hun viet sitt liv til de fattige og vanskeligstilte.

Hun døde i 1329, 66 år gammel og ble begravet rett i jorden, etter fem år var kroppen hennes så godt bevart, med åpne øyne og klart blikk, at dette ble betraktet som et mirakel, og hun ble erklært som en helgen. Hun ligger nå i en glasskiste i De Sainte Roseline Kapellet 3 km nordøst på D91

UTFLUKTER

Det praktfulle fjelllandskapet i Gordes du Verdon
Les Arces er et ypperlig utgangspunkt på grunn av beliggenheten og togstasjonen som
ligger bare en kort spasertur fra sentrum.
Du er bare 35 minutter unna rivieraen og strandlivet, kort vei til de sjarmerende landsbyene som ligger som perler på en snor rundt landsbyen. Du befinner deg midt i vindistriktet Cote de Provence, og de mange vingårdene som er åpen for besøk.

Jeg vil også anbefale toget i stedet for bil hvis dere skal ned til kysten, tog til St.Raphael tar bare 20 minutter, toget stanser så godt som inne i sentrum av St-Rapahel. Bare 5 minutters spasertur ned til stranden, hvor det er både private og offentlige strender, kafeer og restauranter.

Og du slipper trafikken som kan være ganske intens, spesielt i juli og august

Tur til Paris, 4 timer med hurtigtoget TGV, som har stopp i Les Arcs.

Inngangen til det spennende fjellområdet Gordes du Verdon ligger bare en times vei unna, men ta det som en dagstur, det tar noen timer og kjøre over fjellet.

Innsjøen Lac St. Croix, en times kjøring, her er det aktiviteter, vannsport og muligheter for leie av padlebåter og kanoer.Flere flotte golfanlegg innen 20 minutters kjøring
